PLAINVIEW, Tex. (TaborBluejays.com) – After a stellar performance at David & Myrt Wilder Field to open the season on Friday, the No. 22 ranked Bluejays returned to the quaint ballpark in West Texas for the final two games of the series between Tabor and Wayland Baptist on Saturday. TC scored an impressive 33 runs over the course of Friday’s doubleheader and they looked to bring more of the same.

Spoiler alert, that 31 run total wouldn’t be reached again on the second day of the Bluejays’ trip to Texas, but 20 total runs on the day isn’t so bad either. With other teams around the country and the KCAC falling in their first action of the new season, the Bluejays made a solid case to move up in the next NAIA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll.

Game One: W 17-5
In the same fashion as the first two games of the series, Tabor jumped on the scoreboard early, scoring quickly in the top of the 1st Inning. Cody Moore provided the first runs for the Bluejays, doubling to right center field, sending Juan Rosa Gonzalez and Isaiah Cohens in to score. Aidan Martinez followed not long after, hitting a double to center and scoring Moore and Garryn Plummer.

Wayland got on the board in the bottom of the 2nd with a homer to right field, cutting Tabor’s lead to 4-1.

Danny Zepeda put the Bluejays back up by four by way of a single to center, sending Plummer in to score and add to the tally. The Pioneers answered in the bottom of the inning, coming back to within two runs.

Tabor responded in the top of the 4th Inning with three runs of the own as Marcelo Aguirre reprised his performance from the day before a smashing a homer over the left field fence, also sending Cohens and Micach Dvorak in to score, pushing the lead to 8-3.

Mikey Acosta hit a double to right in the top of the 5th Inning, scoring Plummer. Cohens followed with a two-RBI single to center, scoring Acosta and Zepeda. The Bluejays held a solid 11-3 advantage after five and a half innings played. Wayland added one of their own runs in the bottom of the 5th.

Two more Bluejay runs came in to score in the top of the 6th Inning, continuing to add to the pressure already heavily mounted on the Pioneers. WBU scored one final run in the bottom of the inning.

Three runs came in during the 7th Inning, giving the Bluejays a huge dominant 17-5 win over Wayland Baptist.

Xander Roberts got his first start of the 2025 season, earning the win after four innings pitched and throwing 65 pitches and facing 17 batters. Quintin Holman earned the save, pitching three total innings.

Game Two: W 3-0
The final game of the series saw the Bluejays slow down on the scoring front with two runs coming in in the 3rd Inning and the final run crossing the plate in the 7th Inning.

Zaid Flynn threw five innings in his first ever appearance as a Bluejay in the shutout win, throwing 63 pitches, facing 20 batters, and giving up three hits. Garrick Levesque pitched the final two innings, earning the save.

With the win in the final game, Tabor sweeps the season series against Wayland Baptist, 4-0 after dropping three games to the Pioneers a year ago.

The Bluejays get a two week break before they return to action on February 7th at the Cajun Collision in Sterlington, La.
