PRATT, Kan. (BlueDragonSports.com) – The 100th all-time meeting in series history between Hutchinson and Pratt was all Blue Dragons on Saturday.
The Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team shot a season-high 54.8 percent to roll past the Pratt Beavers 92-47 at the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena.
The Blue Dragons (16-0, 10-0 KJCCC) won their 53rd-consecutive game, 38th-straight Jayhawk Conference game, 22nd-consecutive road game and their 20th-straight game over Pratt. The Dragons play host to Seward County on Wednesday at the Sports Arena. Pratt is now 6-9 and 1-8 in the KJCCC.
The Blue Dragons led 8-5 in the first quarter and went on a 15-0 run to take control of the game. The Dragons led 26-8 after the first quarter. The Dragons shot 77.8 percent in the second half and outscored the Beavers 26-4 to give the Dragons a 40-point lead at halftime.
The Blue Dragons hit 34 of 62 overall shots, including 6 of 12 from 3-point range and 18 of 21 at the free-throw line.
Hailey Jackson scored 20 points to lead all scorers. She was 5 of 11 shooting and 10 of 11 from the free-throw line.
Landon Forbes scored a conference season high with 15 points on 5 of 8 shooting, including a 3-pointer. Forbes was also 4 of 4 from the free-throw line and added three assists.
Katie Duncan scored a career-high 15 points with a career-high-tying three 3-pointers.
Kahlen Norris scored nine points and Carly Dameron came off the bench for a season-high eight points.
The Blue Dragons outrebounded Pratt 39-25. Brynne Katcher had a game-high nine rebounds and Norris had seven rebounds.
La’Kyra Johnson had 14 points, MaKiya Humphrey had 13 points and Tyriana Stanford had 12 to lead Pratt.
The Beavers shot 32.0 percent for the game (16 of 50), hitting 4 of 18 from 3-point range and 11 of 12 at the free-throw line. The Beavers turned the ball over 25 times.
Four different players scored in Hutchinson’s 15-0 run. Jackson converted a three-point play with 2:52 remaining to give the Dragons a 23-5 lead. Duncan scored and Katcher hit a free-throw in the final 30 seconds for a 26-8 lead after 10 minutes.
Pratt had scoreless streaks of 4:33 and 6:08 in the second half. Forbes hit two free throws with 6:25 to play in the second quarter to give the Dragons a 36-8 lead. The Dragons were 7 of 9 shooting in the second quarter, including two 3-pointers and 10 of 12 from the foul line, while holding Pratt to 2 of 7 shooting with 10 turnovers in a 26-4 second quarter to gave the Dragons a 52-12 lead at halftime.
The Blue Dragons’ largest lead was 49 points on a Duncan 3-pointer with 7:07 left in the fourth quarter for an 80-31 lead.
GAME NOTES – Hutchinson head coach John Ontjes won his 499th game with the Blue Dragons. … Kahlen Norris had a career-high five steals.
