No. 1 Football Dragons Reach Longevity Mark in NJCAA Poll

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (BlueDragonSports.com) – Coming off a bye week, the Hutchinson Community College football team remained No. 1 in the latest Division I national rankings released on Monday.

Now ranked in 38 consecutive poll releases, the Blue Dragons tie for the second-longest consecutive run in the national rankings in team history.

The Blue Dragons were also ranked in 38 consecutive polls from 2018 to the third week in 2021. Hutchison was out of 6 of the next 7 polls before returning on November 2, 2021, which started the current run in the rankings.

The Blue Dragon record for consecutive weeks ranked in the polls is 45, which was set from 2010 to 2013.

This is the sixth time the Blue Dragons have been ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA polls and it’s the third week in a row Hutchinson is the top team in the rankings. The Dragons have been ranked No. 1 in 32 of the past 58 polls and have been ranked in the nation’s Top 3 for 33 consecutive polls.

Hutchinson returns to action at Noon Saturday to take on the Ellsworth Panthers at Gowans Stadium.

There were no changes in the Top 5 this week with the Blue Dragons receiving all 12 first-place votes. No. 2 Iowa Western had to rally to defeat Iowa Central in a shootout. Snow, Mississippi Gulf Coast and Kilgore are third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

Garden City (3-1) made a three-spot jump to No. 8. Butler (2-1) moved up two spots to No. 12 and Highland (3-1) dropped five spots to No. 13 after a 13-9 loss to unranked Dodge City on Saturday. Dodge City is receiving votes this week.
