COLBY, Kan. (KJCCC.org) – Neosho County Community College midfielder Asaph Silveira and Johnson County Community College goalkeeper Ben Hertel have been named Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 2 Men’s Soccer Players of the Week following the opening weekend of the 2024 season.
Asaph Silveira – Neosho County opened their 2024 campaign against NJCAA Division 1 Dodge City Community College with Silveira scoring a hat trick in the season-opener. Starting the scoring nine minutes into the game to give the Panthers an early 1-0 lead, Silveria added two more goals in the second half as Neosho outscored Dodge City 3-0 in the final 45 minutes to break a 2-2 tie at halftime to come away with a 5-2 win.
Ben Hertel – Making his collegiate debut for the number 13 ranked Cavaliers, Hertel recorded a shutout in the season-opening match for JCCC as part of a 4-0 win at Cape Fear Community College. Facing just four shots in the match, Hertel stopped all four shots to record a clean sheet as Johnson County finished the weekend with two wins.
