CHANUTE, Kan. (GoNeosho.com) – The Neosho County Cross Country team hosted the NCCC Invite Friday October 4th at the Santa Fe Lake Disc Golf Course. It was an unseasonably warm fall afternoon for the meet but the Panthers saw success in the meet coming away with 9 personal or season best from the meet. Leading the way for the women was Wendy Komane in 9th place a nice rebound from a week prior. On the men’s side Tristan Hickman lead the way with at top 5 finish coming in 4th overall in the men’s field securing a new personal best time of 28:09 and moving himself into 17th on Neosho County’s All-Time XC list.
“We appreciate the support of everyone who came out and especially to the volunteers that helped us to put on such a good meet. Hosting a home meet is always a lot of work for a Coach and doesn’t allow us to be around to coach the athletes on the day as much as we would like, but it usually pays off for the athletes in the end. Today was no different, even in spite of the hot conditions we had a lot of great things happen and saw major improvements from the whole team. We don’t have a lot of season left but we have a lot more in the tank and are going to show it over these next few weeks. This team has continued to push and continued to get better and better and when it all finally clicks for us we are going to surprise some people.” Comment’s from NCCC Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach Trey Bruton following the conclusion of the event on Friday.
Next up for the Panthers is a trip to the KJCCC Pre-Region Meet in Winfield, KS on October 12th, hosted by Cowley County Community college.
