KSHSAA Sub-State Volleyball tournaments were held on Saturday and multiple teams from the Ad Astra Radio listening areas are headed to State next Friday and Saturday.
In Class 4A on the west side, McPherson took home the 4A Sub-State title in Andale. The 6th seeded Bullpups beat Wellington in comeback fashion 10-25, 25-15 and 25-22 in the semis, then beat host and #3 seed Andale 25-23, 25-22 to advance to State. The 4A State Tournament will take place at Hutchinson Sports Arena during the morning and afternoon session on Friday with the finals on Saturday morning.
The 3A State Tournament will also take place in Hutchinson with pool play on Friday afternoon and evening and the finals Saturday afternoon. Two Central Kansas League schools will participate as Halstead won their home Sub-State, as did Hoisington. The Dragons were the #1 seed and beat #4 Southeast of Saline 25-14, 25-20 in the semis, while #3 Hesston won 25-17, 16-25, 30-28 over #2 Wichita Trinity. Halstead won the championship match over Hesston 25-16, 25-20. Hoisington was the #1 seed and beat #4 Smoky Valley in the semis 25-16, 25-23 and went on to beat #2 seed Holcomb 25-18, 25-13 in the championship.
In 2A, three area teams are headed to the State tournament in Dodge City. Inman took home the championship in their home Sub-State. The top-seeded Teutons won 25-16, 25-15 over #4 seed Hillsboro in the semis, while #3 seed Moundridge beat #2 Bennington 25-20, 25-16. Inman took the championship match 25-17, 25-17.
Sedgwick also won their 2A Sub-State. The top-seeded Cardinals beat #4 Northeast-Arma 25-10, 25-17 in the semis, then won 25-13, 16-25, 25-13 over #2 Conway Springs in the championship.
In Ellinwood, the Eagles won their home 2A Sub-State as well. They beat #4 seed Sterling 25-13, 25-11 in the semis and then won 25-23, 25-14 over #2 TMP-Marian in the championship.
Inman, Sedgwick and Ellinwood will play in the morning and afternoon session at Dodge City in 2A on Friday. The afternoon and evening session will feature the 1A-DI State Tournament, as Little River and St. John will be competing.
Little River won their home Sub-State as the top-seeded Redskins beat #4 Olpe 25-11, 25-12 in the semis and #2 Goessel dispatched of #3 Crest 25-18, 25-8. Little River beat Goessel 25-21, 25-20 in the championship. St. John was the #2 seed in the Spearville Sub-State. The Tigers beat #3 Pretty Prairie 25-20, 25-7 in the semis, then beat host #1 Spearville 25-15, 25-18 in the championship.
One area team advanced to the State tournament in 1A-DII as Otis-Bison took home the Sub-State championship in Otis. The #1 seed Cougars beat #4 Hodgeman County 25-20, 25-12 in the semis and went on to beat #2 Bucklin 25-15, 25-20 in the championship. Otis-Bison will play in the 1A-DII State Tournament which begins on Friday morning in Emporia.
Also of note, Great Bend advanced to the 5A State Tournament by winning their home Sub-State. They defeated Goddard in the semis and Valley Center in the championship.
