SALINA, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — The McPherson College men’s tennis team had a tremendous performance at the ITA Regional Championship, which wrapped up Sunday.
Head coach Keiran President‘s squad was paced by Daniel Marcano’s semifinal appearance in singles action.
In the open singles draw, Daniel Marcano picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory Friday morning. He then won by a 6-1, 6-4 score in his second match of the day. Saturday morning, he bested teammate Oscar Brouwer by a 6-1, 2-6, (10-5) count. He earned a spot in the semifinals but lost by a 6-4, 6-2 score.
Brouwer powered through an opening-round victory by a score of 7-6 (7-3), 6-1. He advanced to the third round after earning a 6-3, 6-1 win in the second round, but lost a 6-1, 2-6, 10-5 contest Saturday morning.
Arthur Nardy notched a 6-3, 6-1 win in the opening round. In the second round, he posted a 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) victory. Nardy tallied a 6-3, 6-2 win in the third round of action. However, he dropped a nail-biter in the quarterfinals, falling 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 5-10.
In the quarterfinals, Marcano lost the first set 6-3 before bouncing back to win 7-6 (7-3), 10-5
Marcus Nardy accounted for a 6-3, 6-2 win Friday morning before falling 6-3, 6-0 in his second match of the event.
Simon Delgadillo opened the tournament with a 6-1, 5-7 (1-7) win, but lost in the second round by a score of 5-7, 6-2, 7-10.
Jayson Wasserfuhr dropped a 6-4, 6-2 match in the opening round.
In doubles action, the duo of Brouwer and Marcano cruised to an 8-1 win in the first round. Despite moving to the next round, the two still won by a score of 8-4. In the quarterfinals, the Bulldogs prevailed by an 8-3 count. Their sensational run ended with an 8-5 loss in the semifinals.
Marcus Nardy and Delgadillo opened the tournament with a 9-7 win before falling in the round of 16 by an 8-5 count.
Arthur Nardy and Wasserfuhr also posted a first-round win. The tandem won 8-2 before losing in the second round by a score of 8-5.
The Bulldogs return to action Saturday, Sept. 28 at the KCAC Fall Invitational in North Newton, Kan.
