STERLING, Kan. (SCWarriors.com) – It took the Sterling men’s match extra time to complete after a series of lightning delays. The men fell 5-1 after a rain-soaked second half to the University of Saint Mary.

SC found themselves in a hole early giving up 2 goals in 10 minutes. The teams were trying to beat an approaching storm but got caught up in it with lightning in the area. Both teams cleared the field with 10:10 left to play in the first half. After nearly 90 minutes of delay, the teams came back to the field to finish the match; the lightning was gone, but the rain was abundant. Shortly after play resumed, as players struggled to get their feet under them, USM scored another goal making it 3-0. Just before the end of the half, Sterling got its only goal of the match by Laum Sangzuala, his second of the season, in the 42nd minute.

After an abbreviated halftime, the teams took the field once again. USM was able to knock in two more goals before the messy match was over.

Sterling’s record is now 2-4-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference. They play host to York University on Wednesday at 4 pm and Avila University on Friday at 4 pm for their Homecoming game.
