CRETE, Neb. (MacBulldogs.com) — The McPherson College Bulldogs opened the 2024 campaign Wednesday evening (Aug. 21), but fell 2-1 to the Doane University Tigers at Papik Field in Crete, Neb.

The Bulldogs fell behind early after an unassisted goal by Johan Quintero in the 14th minute. Doane tacked on one more 14 minutes later to pull ahead 2-0 heading into the break. MC had it fair share of opportunities on the offensive end in the opening half, putting three shots on net.

Abdul Kanu put the Bulldogs on the board early in the second half, with a header off of a corner kick in the 55th minute to cut the lead in half.

MC began to put the pressure on after that with three shots on target over the next 10 minutes, as well as a header by Zane Sullivan from 10 yards out, but the Bulldogs were unable to find the equalizer.

The Bulldogs outshot Doane 12-10 with a 9-7 advantage on target. Joao Rocha led the Bulldogs with three shots on goal, while Kanu added a pair.

Defensively, Keito Takehara made his first start in a Bulldog uniform stopping five shots.

MC will be back in action next Friday (Aug. 30), traveling to Siloam Springs, Ark., to take on John Brown University. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
