STERLING, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) – The Sterling College Warriors shot 51.4 percent from the field, and 45.8 percent from beyond the arc to knock off the McPherson College Bulldogs 87-72 Wednesday night (Feb. 19) in the penultimate game of the KCAC regular season inside the Gleason Center in Sterling, Kan.
Mooch Austin led the Warriors in the scoring column with 24 points, and added five assists and five rebounds.
MC had one of their lowest offensive outings of the season, shooting just 37 percent from the field, and 23.1 percent from deep.
Five Bulldogs scored in double figures led by Tarrance Austin and Jamil Hardaway with 13 points each. Collin Storr, Charles Snyder, and KJ Marshall all finished with ten points apiece.
The first half opened with the teams’ trading buckets, until the Warriors caught fire to open up a 29-16 lead midway through the frame. MC clawed its way back with a quick 9-0 burst that featured a pair of threes by Dallas Metzger and Aaron Williams, Jr., but the Warriors rebounded to take a 47-38 lead into the break.
From there, the Bulldogs were never able to completely cut into the lead, trailing by double digits most of the way.
The Bulldogs remain on the road for their season finale with a matchup against Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
With one game to play, the Bulldogs still sit in the seven-seed for next weeks’ KCAC Tournament. MC holds a half-game lead over Evangel, and are one-game ahead of Sterling and Bethany. Evangel squares off against Oklahoma Wesleyan tomorrow (Feb. 20) in Springfield, before hosting Sterling on Saturday. Bethany travels to Friends this weekend.
