Men’s Basketball Bulldogs Tripped Up at Tabor in Overtime

HILLSBORO, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — The McPherson College Bulldogs erased a five-point deficit with two minutes left to force overtime Wednesday night (Jan. 10), but ultimately fell to the Tabor College Bluejays 84-81 in Hillsboro, Kan.

The Bulldogs held a 79-78 lead with 42 seconds left in overtime, but a putback by Thatcher McClure put the Bluejays on top before making timely free throws to knock off the Bulldogs.

Collin Storr paced the Bulldogs (11-4, 6-3 KCAC) with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Curtis Rose added 12 points and a pair of steals, while Antonio Watson finished with 11 points. Quinn Collins and Jerome Mabry each scored 10 points, while Mabry grabbed nine rebounds.

MC finished 6-for-16 from beyond the arc, and were 19-for-26 at the charity stripe. The Bulldogs shot 41.2 percent from the field. MC scored 13 second-chance points thanks to 19 offensive rebounds. Storr led the Bulldogs with five offensive boards.

In overtime, the Bulldogs were just 2-for-7 from the field, with a pair of turnovers.

The Bluejays shot 50 percent (31-for-62) from the field despite connecting on just two of their 21 three-point attempts. McClure led the Bluejays with 21 points and nine rebounds, while Kalep Crane added 19 points.

MC scored the first two points of the game, but wouldn’t lead again until the last minute of the first half. The Bluejays took a 38-37 advantage into the break.

The Bulldogs used a 9-0 spurt midway through the second frame to grab a 66-60 edge, their largest lead of the contest. However, a 12-1 burst by the Bluejays put them on top 72-67 with 2:23 left in regulation.

MC will be back in action Saturday (Jan. 13) to take on York University inside the Sport Center. Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
