Men’s Basketball Bulldogs Knock off Saint Mary

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — The McPherson College Bulldogs used a balanced offensive attack Wednesday night (Jan. 3) to take down the University of Saint Mary Spires 73-63 in Leavenworth, Kan.

Collin Storr and Owen Braxmeyer each finished with 14 points, while Curtis Rose and Quinn Collins added 11 points. Jerome Mabry rounded out the double-digit scoring with ten points. Braxmeyer finished with a team-high 13 rebounds, and Rose had four assists.

The Bulldogs (10-3, 5-2 KCAC) shot 45.1 percent (32-for-71), but were just 5-for-17 from distance, and 4-for-9 from the free throw line. MC grabbed 13 offensive rebounds.

MC jumped out to a 19-7 lead after the first eight minutes before using a 13-0 burst to balloon their lead to 32-11. The Bulldogs led 41-24 at the break.

Coming out of halftime, the Spires trimmed the lead to 50-39, but the Bulldogs answered with a 9-0 burst capped off by a triple by Braxmeyer. The Bulldogs grabbed their largest lead of the contest at 70-48 with just over five minutes left.

Deshaud St. Martin led the Spires (5-8, 1-6 KCAC) with 21 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists. Joey Schultz added ten points.

The Bulldogs return to the Sport Center on Saturday (Jan. 6) for a KCAC showdown with sixth-ranked Southwestern. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
