McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) – The McPherson College Bulldogs saw their five-game KCAC winning streak snapped at the hand of the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes 83-78 in a hard-fought KCAC battle Wednesday night (Jan. 15) inside Holman Fieldhouse.
Four Bulldogs scored in double figures led by Curtis Rose who finished with 19 points and four assists. Collin Storr added 18 points, three assists, and tied his season high with 14 rebounds. Charles Snyder finished with 13 points and six rebounds, while Tarrance Austin scored 12 points.
The Bulldogs did not make a three-pointer, which marks the first game since Nov. 3, 2018 that MC has not connected from distance. That streak was snapped at 189 consecutive games with a three-pointer. McPherson finished 0-for-11 from beyond the arc.
KWU raced out to an early lead, holding a 32-21 advantage with less than seven minutes to play in the first half, but the Bulldogs closed on a 22-10 spurt to give them a 43-42 lead at the break. Storr finished with 14 of his 18 points in the opening frame.
From there, the teams traded blows in the early going of the second half with neither team able to create separation until the Coyotes used an 11-2 burst to take a 64-56 lead with under nine minutes to play. The Bulldogs clawed their way back, cutting the Coyote lead to 74-72 with 1:57 remaining, but that would be the closest MC would come as KWU connected on all of its free throws down the stretch.
Easton Hunter and Alex Littlejohn paced the Coyotes with 17 points apiece, with Littlejohn leading the way with 12 rebounds. Aiden Leckband added 13 points.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday, playing host to Avila University at Holman Fieldhouse. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
