McPherson Women’s Tennis Falls to Emporia State

SALINA, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) – The McPherson College women’s tennis team lost a 7-0 decision at Emporia State Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldogs are now 2-1 on the season.

In doubles action, Taimi Nashiku and Laureen Von Drunen registered a hard fought 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot. However, the team was unable to grab the doubles point as the home team won the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches by 6-1 scores.

Top-seeded Vanessa Hofer fell by a 6-1, 6-2 count in singles action. Nashiku lost a 6-1, 6-1 decision at the No. 2 spot, giving the Hornets a 3-0 lead. Down 4-0 after a loss at No. 4 singles, Alexandria Garcia forced extra points at No. 3. However, she lost by a 6-1, 7-5 decision.

Pia Hinricher (No. 5) and Bella Ellerbee (No. 6) put forth strong matches, but neither could get the victory.

“The girls played tough and competed well.” Interim head coach Craig Holman said. “This match helps us identify specific areas of opportunity for each player. I’m excited for our potential as a team as we prepare for KCAC play”

The Bulldogs return to action Saturday, Feb. 22, when they take on Morningside University in Sioux City, Neb. The match is slated to start at 4 p.m.
