McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) – The Bulldogs were unable to ride the momentum of a red hot start as they dropped their first game of the new calendar year, falling to the Evangel Valor on Saturday (Jan 4) 80-68.
McPherson and Evangel spent the first half trading blows as the lead changed hands seven times and the score was tied up 11 times. The Bulldogs shot one of their best marks of the year in the first half, shooting at a 45% clip and 54% from behind the three point line as they took a 39-34 lead into the halftime break.
The Valor offense returned the favor in the second half, shooting 54% in the third quarter of play and 69% from the field in the fourth. Evangel ramped up the pressure defensively as MC saw their field goal percentage drop and were unable to recover, dropping the contest and falling to 0-14 on the season.
Gillian Rodgers had a career day, scoring a career high 22 points to lead the Bulldogs. Nikola Boris chipped in four three pointers to secure her best scoring output of the year with 12 points.
The Bulldogs head off to Nebraska for their next contest as they face off with York University. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
