LINDSBORG, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — The Bethany College Swedes shot 52.4 percent from the field Wednesday (Dec. 6) to knock off the McPherson College Bulldogs 88-64 in Lindsborg, Kan.
Lauren Gleason scored 24 points on 11-for-11 shooting from the field to lead the Swedes. Bethany scored 42 points in the paint, and had 48 points off the bench.
The Bulldogs (4-6, 0-5 KCAC) were led by Madelyn Hankins, who scored 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting, including 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. Matisyn Moses added 15 points, while Chloe Clevenger finished with 11 points and five rebounds.
MC shot 38.5 percent from the field, including a season-best 40.0 percent (6-for-15) from distance. The Bulldogs grabbed 15 offensive rebounds, compared to just six offensive boards for the Swedes.
Bethany led 15-13 after the first quarter, then pushed their lead to 28-20 midway through the second. But the Bulldogs fought back with a 9-0 burst capped off by a triple by Moses and a layup by Joze’ Baker. The Swedes would hold a 39-38 advantage at the break.
Taylor Starr drilled a three on the Bulldogs first possession of the second half, but from there the Swedes used a 13-1 run to grab control. MC briefly halted the spurt with five straight points by Hankins, but another 7-0 burst by the Swedes made it a 59-47 lead with 3:08 left in the third quarter.
The Swedes ballooned their lead to as many as 27 points in the fourth quarter.
The Bulldogs return to the Sport Center Saturday (Dec. 9) to take on Ottawa University. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
