STERLING, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) – In the second to last contest of the season, the Bulldogs were unable to claim victory despite a strong first quarter as they fell to the Sterling College Warriors on Wednesday (Feb 19.), 85-64.
The Bulldogs came out the gates firing and were ready to bring it against the top scoring offense in the KCAC. Strong defense from MC held the Warriors to just 17 points in the opening frame of play while two threes by Raeghan Borman and a buzzer beating three at the end of the quarter by Taylor Berkheimer gave MC a 21-17 lead at the first quarter’s end.
Things began to spiral downhill rapidly for the Bulldogs as the second quarter began. The Warriors ramped up the intensity on the defensive end as they forced the Bulldogs into 15 turnovers in the second quarter after forcing just three in the first. That top scoring offense in the KCAC began to come to life as well as they shot 52% from the field and took a 46-29 lead into halftime.
McPherson made a push in the third quarter as they once again held the Sterling offense to under 45% shooting in the third quarter while shooting at a 56% clip against the Warrior defense, but the damage was done come the fourth quarter as turnovers continued to keep the comeback hopes for MC away. The Bulldogs finished the game with a season high 29 turnovers.
Borman led MC in scoring with a career best 19 points as she nailed a trio of three point shots. Lauren Young also put out a good scoring day, securing a career best 10 points.
The 2024-25 season will come to a close for the Bulldogs on Saturday, February 22 as they travel to face off with the Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
