McPherson Volleyball Extends Streak to 11 with Sweep over York

McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) – The McPherson College Bulldogs push their winning streak to 11 games with a 3-0 sweep over the York University Panthers Wednesday (Oct. 23) inside the Holman Fieldhouse.

The Bulldogs were in control from the early going, leading 7-3 before 10 of 11 points midway through to secure a 17-6 advantage. Kills by Katie WardenEnya Fierens, and Brooke McHale, as well as an ace by Zoe Jerke made it a 21-7 Bulldog lead. MC closed the opening set with three straight points, including a pair of kills by Fierens to win 25-9.

Set two was a lot like the first, as the Bulldogs grabbed an early 13-6 edge. The Panthers were able to keep things close, but MC would prevail with a 25-19 win. Four of the final six points went to the Bulldogs, thanks to kills by Zoe Fernandez and McHale.

The Bulldogs maintained the momentum into what would prove to be the final set, racing out to an early 11-5 lead before cruising to a 25-18 win and their 17th sweep of the season.

MC hit a staggering .424, which marks the fifth time this season the Bulldogs have hit over .400. Fierens led the way for the Bulldogs offensively with a game-best 10 kills on 15 swings, while Hadley Waldren added nine kills. MC had a solid two-headed attack as Katelyn Brogan finished with a team-high 21 assists and Raegan Murphy finished with 20 assists.

Defensively, the Bulldogs had eight blocks. Waldren led the Bulldogs with one solo block, and five blocking assists. Celestina Retumban led the Bulldogs on the back row with 13 digs, while McHale added 10 digs.

With four games to play, the Bulldogs (22-5, 8-1 KCAC) are sitting in second place in the KCAC standings with Oklahoma Wesleyan holding the tiebreaker.

The Bulldogs are hit the road to take on (RV) Ottawa University this Saturday (Oct. 26). Start time is 2:30 p.m.
