McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — McPherson Mayor Tom Brown along with People’s Bank and Trust announced today a new year-long competition between the athletics departments at McPherson College and Central Christian College of Kansas.

“McPherson College is excited to partner with the City of McPherson and Central Christian College to bring our community a year-long competition between our two institutions. We appreciate People’s Bank and Trust for their support of the McPherson Collegiate Cup which allows us to better promote the events and offer free admission to all contests,” said McPherson College AD Josh Daume.

Central Christian College AD Kyle Moody added, “This is great opportunity to showcase the athletics programs at the local institutions while building pride in our community. Working with People’s Bank & Trust to make this a concept a reality is a win-win”

Building on the annual Mayor’s Cup games between the two schools in men’s and women’s basketball, the McPherson Collegiate Cup will be awarded at the end of the academic year to the institution who wins the most competitions across all sports. This year, McPherson College and Central Christian have agreed to contests in the sports of men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, baseball, and softball in addition to the traditional basketball games.

“I hope the community will support these student-athletes in person, via the radio, or through the colleges’ television broadcasts this year,” commented McPherson Mayor Tom Brown. “Both colleges are experiencing growing enrollment, and McPherson is a quality college town. We’re excited to work with People’s Bank and Trust this year to award the inaugural McPherson Collegiate Cup.”

MC will serve as the host school for men’s and women’s soccer on September 10 with the women kicking off at 5:00pm followed by the men’s game at 7:30 at McPherson Stadium. The competition will then move to Jerry Alexander Arena on the campus of Central Christian for volleyball on Oct. 22 at 7:00pm and basketball on November 5 (6:00 and 8:00pm). Dates and times for the baseball and softball games will be announced at a later date.

Ad Astra Radio will broadcast each McPherson Collegiate Cup competition on KMCP 98.9. All games will also be available through the host institution’s regular live stream platforms.
