McPherson Boys Move to 3-0, Girls Fall vs. Andover

ANDOVER, Kan. – The McPherson High School Bullpups basketball teams were on the road in a tough test at Andover Friday.

GIRLS: McPherson 44, Andover 59

In the toughest test of the season so far for the girls team, the Bullpups fell against the No. 1 team in 5A in Andover, which featured two NCAA DI commits. McPherson led 25-18 with about 2:30 left in the 2nd quarter, but Andover mounted a comeback to take a 26-25 lead at halftime. The Trojans did not give up the lead for the rest of the game, winning 59-44.

Karter Alvord led the Bullpups with 15 points, Jayla McLeod and Jaela Thompson each added 10, Madi Moors had 4, Ellie Bower finished with 3 and Reanna Eilrich finished with 1 point.

BOYS: McPherson 70, Andover 61

The Bullpups started off the game hot against the defending 5A state champs, holding a 9-1 early lead. McPherson carried that into the 3rd quarter, leading by as much as 17 points. However, with around four minutes remaining in the 4th quarter, Andover tried to come back, closing the gap as close to a four-point game. However, the Bullpups put together a late run, winning 70-61.

Gabe Pyle led the team with 21 points, Kyden Thompson scored a season-high 19 points, 13 of which were scored in the 3rd quarter alone. Ian Razak racked up 10 points, Cory Muehler finished with 7, Gavin Wedel ended with 6, Owen Pyle had 4 and Jett Pyle had 3 points.

The Bullpups begin AVCTL DIII play Tuesday, Dec. 12 at Buhler, kicking off a busy week of playing three games in the span of five days. The varsity girls will play at 6 p.m. and the varsity boys play at 7:30 p.m. Pregame coverage on 98.9/1540 KMCP begins at 5:40 p.m.
