LITTLE RIVER, Kan. – The Little River High School Redskins had a busy week between April 1 and April 8, with Baseball, Softball, and Track & Field having a great week.
BASEBALL
The Little River baseball team is undefeated at 8-0 following sweeps against Canton-Galva/Elyria Christian and Bennington.
The week started off Tuesday, April 1 with the home doubleheader against Canton-Galva/Elyria Christian. The Redskins played a total of eight innings combined in the two games, winning both games 15-0.
The team then had a week to prepare for their next doubleheader, facing Bennington at home. Game one saw the full seven innings with Little River winning 8-3 over the Bulldogs. Game two only saw three innings though as Little River built off of a 14-run first inning and winning 15-0.
The team is 8-0 on the season and will be back in action Friday, April 11 against Marion on the road.
The school also provided an update on the baseball doubleheader that was originally scheduled for Friday, April 4 against Hutchinson-Trinity Catholic that was canceled due to weather. According to the Little River Athletics Facebook page, the baseball teams were unable to reschedule.
SOFTBALL
The Little River varsity softball team struggled to start off the season, but finally turned it around against Canton-Galva/Elyria Christian Tuesday, April 1, winning both games. They took game one 19-11 and game two 17-7 in two offensive battles.
The team looked to build off of their sweep, but fell in both games at home against Bennington. Game one lasted just five innings as Little River fell 20-3. Game two lasted six innings in a 12-2 loss.
The softball team is 2-8 on the season but will have time before their next outing, which will be Thursday, April 24 at Sylvan Lucas. Their game originally scheduled for Marion on Friday, April 11 was canceled as Marion does not have enough players to field a team.
The postponed softball doubleheader against Hutchinson-Trinity Catholic from Friday, April 4 was rescheduled to Tuesday, April 29.
