Little River Basketball Teams Close Season at State, Girls Finish as Runners-Up and Boys Fall in Quarterfinals

DODGE CITY, Kan. – The Little River Redskins basketball teams finished their seasons in the final weekend at the 1A-I State Tournament in Dodge City.


GIRLS

The Little River girls basketball team came into the tournament undefeated and as the No. 1 seed in 1A-I. The team closed off the quarterfinals and semifinals rounds in blowout fashion, defeating Colony-Crest 76-27 and Quinter 68-52. Awaiting the Lady Redskins was another undefeated team out of Northeast Kansas in Centralia. Little River put up a big fight, but fell to Centralia 50-43.

Following the season, six players and head coach CJ Rolfs earned Wheat State All-League honors. Rolfs was named the coach of the year. Juniors Arika Feldman and Havana Olander were named First Team All-League honorees. Junior Adelynne Strecker was a second team honoree. Three players were All-League Honorable Mentions, which included junior Evie Look and sophomores Saelyn Raleigh and Avery Lafferty.


BOYS

The Little River boys closed off an amazing Sub-State run to advance themselves to the State Tournament. They entered Dodge City as the No. 8 seed and had to face No. 1 Olpe, looking to get a first-round upset. Both teams went back-and-forth for the entire game as Little River would end up falling 57-53. There were seven lead changes and nine ties in the first half, which saw the Redskins up 26-24 into the locker room. Little River had a 50-49 lead in the fourth quarter, but it would end up being the last time Little River led as Olpe went on a run to end the game.

In the season’s conclusion, three boys players were named All-League honorees, including two members of the team named first-team honorees. Senior Logan Renken and sophomore Jaren Garrison were named to the first team while junior Jaxson Konen was named to the second team.
