HILLSBORO, Kan. (TaborBluejays.com) – To conclude Tabor’s Saturday evening events, the Bluejay men took on the Moundbuilders of Southwestern College to close out the night. Tabor went into the matchup with an overall record of 1-3-2 and a conference record of 1-1, while Southwestern entered the contest with an overall record of 4-1 and a conference record of 1-1. The matchup between the two teams during the 2023 season was a competitive, back-and-forth contest, with the Bluejays ultimately securing a 4-3 victory. Tabor looked to capitalize on this and achieve a similar outcome this season.

The first half began with lots of action, as Andre Trigo took a shot at scoring early on, but narrowly missed the target. Almost 13 minutes into the match, Jack Bagley-Etheridge of Southwestern scored a goal for the Moundbuilders, putting them ahead 1-0. A little while later, Southwestern took another shot at the goal, but it was saved by Bluejay goalkeeper Ignacio Fabeiro. Following Faberio’s impressive save, Molelwa Abendelwa took a shot at scoring at the other end of the field and netted the goal with an assist from Trigo. The only other notable action that occurred in the rest of the half was two more shots taken by Southwestern’s offense, with one striking the crossbar and the other saved by Fabeiro. Going into the half, the score was 1-1 and each team would aim to put themselves on top in the last 45 minutes.

Cooper Taylor and Liam Morgan opened the second half with attempts at scoring, but were both unable find the back of the net. Fabeiro would go on to record a total of four saves on the evening, keeping the damage to a minimum. However, Southwestern was able to score one more goal to put them on top at the 84-minute mark, and Tabor could not gain any momentum to retaliate. The match ended with a 2-1 final score as Southwestern took home the win.

This upcoming Wednesday will hold another conference matchup for the Bluejays as they face Kansas Wesleyan University at 7:30 p.m. The match will be played on Tabor’s home turf at Joel H. Wiens Stadium. The Coyotes will enter the contest with an overall record of 4-3-1 and a conference record of 2-1-1.
