Late Goal Halts Men’s Soccer Tigers Upset Bid

McPHERSON, Kan. (CCCTigers.com) – The Central Christian Tigers gave the John Brown Golden Eagles everything they could handle. A Late Eagles goal in the 2nd half was the difference as the Tigers fell 3-2.

John Brown was able to strike 1st with a goal in the 24th minute. The Tigers were able to get an equalizer in, nearly 4 minutes later with a Johnny Rodriguez goal assisted by Marco Cherchi, Rodriguez 5th goal of the season. 12 minutes later the Tigers were able to take the lead with Adrian Garcia’s 1st goal of the season assisted by Drew Schrader, and the Tigers took control 2-1. The Golden Eagles were able to get a Huge goal right before time expired on the half, as the teams went into halftime tied 2-2.

The Tigers came out of the half as the aggressors as they were able to get 3 shots at goal by Nicholas ArenareJoan Muncharaz, and Conner Rodgers, but were unsuccessful. As both teams settled into an intense defensive battle, the Golden Eagles were able to get a shot at Tiger goalie Timothy Foster, which he saved, and exactly 1 minute later, the Golden Eagles were able to take the lead with an Erick Diaz goal, to take a 3-2 lead in the 75th minute. The Tigers were able to get a shot by Joel Romero 2 minutes later, followed by a header by Drew Schrader to no avail. Marco Cherchi was able to get a great look with 23 seconds remaining in the match, but blocked by Golden Eagles goalie Adam Tebbs, and the Tigers lost a heart-breaker 3-2.

The Tigers (5-6-2, 1-3-1) travel to take on Oklahoma City University (8-1-2, 3-1-1) on Saturday at 3:30pm. The Game can be seen live on the SAC Sports Network.
