MCPHERSON, Kan. – Blaise Hoover drilled a 38-yard field goal with 33 seconds left in the fourth quarter Friday, giving McPherson a 17-14 win over WInfield.

McPherson’s defense shined most of the game, holding Winfield to 216 yards of offense and 12 first downs. McPherson also won the turnover battle with three takeaways to two for Winfield.

But Winfield held the upper hand early with a 7-0 lead. Then, Hoover completed a 28-yard touchdown pass to Gunner Schumacher, tying the game going into halftime.

Owen Fetsch then completed a 12-yard touchdown pass to Hoover to give the Bullpups a 14-7 lead, but Winfield answered with a defensive score.

That set up a tight, tense fourth quarter, with Hoover scoring the only points.

McPherson had 336 yards of offense and improved to 3-2 with Wellington coming to town next week.
