HESSTON, Kan. (HCLarks.com) – The Hesston College men’s basketball team secured an 80-70 home victory over Neosho County Community College on Wednesday (Jan. 29). The Larks moved to 9-10 overall and 3-3 in the KJCCC.
The Larks came out firing from deep, quickly establishing an early lead with strong three-point shooting. Brycten Harris got Hesston on the board first with a three-pointer off an assist from John Probey, and Terryon Stebbins followed with another triple to tie the game at 6-6. The Larks then went on a scoring run, fueled by back-to-back threes from Harris and Probey, building a double-digit advantage midway through the first half. By the 4:26 mark, Hesston had stretched their lead to 18 points, their largest margin of the half, and entered the break ahead 47-33.
Neosho attempted to rally in the second half behind a strong performance from Adyn Prophete, who finished with 23 points and 15 rebounds. However, Hesston’s defense responded with timely steals and stops, led by Stebbins and Probey, who both recorded multiple takeaways. The Larks built their largest lead of the game at 20 points with 16:46 remaining in the second half. Despite Neosho chipping away at the deficit, Hesston maintained composure at the free-throw line, converting 21-of-30 attempts for the game. Jammial Hicks led the scoring effort with 22 points, knocking down three triples and going 7-of-9 from the charity stripe. Trent Thompson added 13 points, including two three-pointers, while Stebbins and Probey each contributed 11 points. Stebbins also dominated the boards with nine rebounds and recorded three steals.
The Larks will resume conference play on Saturday as they take on #10 Johnson County Community College at 4 p.m.
