STERLING, Kan. (SCWarriors.com) – The Lady Warriors looked like they would run away with another victory, but a fourth-quarter comeback by the Ottawa University Braves made for an interesting night. Sterling was in control most of the night, thanks to a three-quarter court trapping defense. The Warriors got off to a slow start, but took the lead late in the first quarter, before extending their lead in the second quarter. At the half, the Warriors were up twelve, 44-32.
Sterling nearly put the game away in the third quarter outscoring Ottawa by 11 in the frame and closing the quarter with a 69-46 lead. To start the fourth quarter, everything went right for Ottawa scoring the first eight points in just over a minute of game time. The next six minutes were a battle with neither team giving an inch. A late surge, however, got Ottawa to within seven points, but time ran out on any more. Sterling held on for an 84-77 win.
Korynn Clason led all scorers with 23 points and added 4 rebounds. Alyssa Heskamp played another well-rounded game scoring 19 points, and added 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Kali Briar added to an already great week of ball distribution with another 6 assists.
Sterling improves to 9-3 overall and is 5-2 in the KCAC. At the time of this writing that is good enough for a four-way tie for fourth place. The Lady Warriors take the next thirteen days off before playing again at Hastings College on December 30th.
