McPHERSON, Kan. (CCCTigers.com) – The Tigers were back in SAC play this week as they faced Oklahoma Panhandle State on Thursday night and Wayland Baptist University on Saturday.
First up against the Aggies, due to the difficulties with the shot clock horn, the Tigers were assessed an administrative technical which led to the Aggies converting on a free throw to start the game with a one point lead. The Tigers made quick work of catching up as they shot 50% from the floor and 62.5% from beyond the arc to amass an 11 point lead after one quarter.
The second quarter was much of the same scoring wise. After a back and forth all quarter, the Tigers saw their lead extend to 12 at the halftime break. Coming out of halftime, the Tigers got into a bit of foul trouble which led to the Aggies converting 6-7 free throws to cut into the Tigers lead.
The fourth quarter saw the Tigers continue to play hard and control the ball. Chloe Clevenger and Charmayne Marshall both scored over 20 points to help lead the Tigers over the Aggies by a score of 60-51 for their first conference win of the season. The Tigers won the battle on the boards thanks to Amanda Dotter hauling in 16 rebounds by herself. Through this, the Tigers were able to limit turnovers and control possessions.
Saturday, the Tigers looked to continue their winning ways against a tough opponent in Wayland Baptist. The Flying Queens came out of the gates hot going 10-13 from the field in the first quarter. This led to the Flying Queens leading 28-7 after the first quarter.
The Tigers were unable to climb out of this hole despite 21 points from Chloe Clevenger and would go on to lose the game 108-48.
