The Big 12 released their preseason Big 12 media poll and their preseason All-Big 12 team voted by the media for the upcoming football season Tuesday, July 2, with KU and K-State voted heavily favored and two defensive Jayhawks making the preseason team.
With the departure of two football powerhouses in Texas and Oklahoma as they move to the SEC, hype around the upcoming Big 12 football season has been wild. The media poll tends to agree, as five of the conference’s 16 teams earned first-place votes.
Kansas State was voted No. 2 in the preseason poll, finishing just a few points behind Utah for the top spot. The Wildcats are coming off of a 9-4 season in 2023, including a 5th place conference finish with a 6-3 record in the Big 12. K-State did not have players voted onto the preseason All-Big 12 team after having four players on the preseason team last year.
KU was voted No. 4 in the preseason poll. According to Kansas Athletics, it is their highest ranking since the Big 12 switched to a non-divisional format in 2011. The Jayhawks are off of a 9-4 season, the most since 2007, including their first bowl win since 2008. No Jayhawks on offense were selected on the preseason team, but defensive backs Cobee Bryant and Mello Dotson were announced on the team. It is the second time Bryant was on the preseason All-Big 12 team and Dotson’s first.
