HUTCHINSON, Kan. (BlueDragonSports.com) – Hutchinson Community College head football Drew Dallas has been named the American Community College Football Coaches’ Association (ACCFCA), the organization announced on Friday.
Dallas led the 2024 Blue Dragons to their second NJCAA Division I national championship in the last five seasons, going 11-1 this season and defeating Iowa Western 28-23 in the NJCAA national championship on December 18 in Canyon, Texas
This is Dallas’ third Coach of the Year award this season after winning the KJCCC Coach of the Year and NJCAA National Coach of the Year awards previously this season.
This is the second time Dallas has been named the ACCFCA Coach of the Year. He also earned the national honor after the 2022 season.
The 2024 Blue Dragons started the season 7-0 before falling to Butler on October 26. He regrouped the Blue Dragons and earned a spot in the NJCAA National Playoffs for the fourth time in his five seasons, closing out the season with a 44-0 win over Highland and a 42-17 win at Garden City.
Earning the No. 3 seed, the Blue Dragons went on the road for the semifinals and defeated No. 2 Georgia Military 63-21 in Milledgeville, Georgia. Then in the championship game, the Blue Dragons rallied from deficits of 14 and 10 points to defeat No. 1 Iowa Western 28-23 on December 18 in Canyon, Texas.
The 2024 Blue Dragons ranked third in the NJCAA in points per game (45.1 ppg), second in total offense (463.2 ypg), third in rushing offense (267.9 ypg) and second in rushing touchdown (42).
Defensively, the Blue Dragons were fourth in scoring allowed (15.8 ppg), seventh in total defense (282.9 ypg) and sixth in rushing defense (107.1). Hutchinson’s 38 quarterback sacked tied for sixth most in the NJCAA this season.
