STERLINGTON, La. (TaborBluejays.com) – Bluejay Baseball concluded a two-week hiatus by taking a trip down to Sterlington, La. to take part in the Cajun Collision, hosted by LSU Shreveport. While in Louisiana, the Bluejays had the opportunity to take on solid competition over a short two-day stretch. Prior to making the trip down south, Tabor swept Wayland Baptist in a four-game series in Texas at the end of January.
Game One: LSU Alexandria, W 5-4
After surrendering a homer to the Generals in the 1st Inning, Tabor got on the board in the 2nd Inning courtesy of a Garryn Plummer bomb. The Bluejays took the lead in the 4th as Cody Moore hit a single, sending Cole Schieffer in to score. LSUA took the lead, scoring three more runs in the 5th Inning, before Mikey Acosta hit a walk off three-RBI homer in the 7th.
Micah Dvorak, Juan Rosa Gonzalez, Cody Moore, Garryn Plummer, Aidan Martinez, all recorded one hit each, while Acosta recorded three RBIs. Sergio Gutierrez recorded the win on the bump.
Game Two: Central Methodist University, L 6-0
Following a solid start to the tournament, the Bluejays met up with familiar foes Central Methodist. Prior to the weekend, Tabor most recently faced CMU in the NAIA Baseball Opening Round Fayette Bracket a season ago.
The Eagles scored in the 1st and the 6th, keeping the Bluejays off the board.
Evan Williams recorded the loss, bringing his record to 1-1 on the young season.
Game Three: Louisiana Christian University, L 12-9
The first game of the day on Saturday saw the Bluejays fall to Louisiana Christian in a hotly contested battle that took eight innings to reach a decision.
Game Four: LSU Shreveport, L 8-7
Tabor faced tournament host LSU Shreveport in the weekend finale. The Bluejays got on the board first as Juan Rosa Gonzalez sent Isaiah Cohens in to score off a single up the middle. TC held a 7-5 advantage in the top of the 7th, courtesy of a Micah Dvorak sac-fly, sending Jared Mack in to score. The Pilots answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning, walking off the Bluejays in a heartbreaker.
Payton Tinkler recorded the loss on the mound.
The Bluejays return to action on Saturday as they open up KCAC play at McPherson College. Game One first pitch is scheduled for 12:00pm.
