LINDSBORG, Kan. – In another Central Kansas League doubleheader on Tuesday night, the Hillsboro Trojans picked up two wins over Smoky Valley. In the girls contest, Hillsboro used a strong second quarter to create separation and in the boys game, the Trojans got off to a hot start and never looked back.
Girls-Hillsboro 52, Smoky Valley 42 – After a back and forth first quarter, Smoky Valley held a 12-8 lead going into the second. Hillsboro had the upper hand from there, outsourcing the Vikings 16-3 in the second quarter, including four made three-pointers. Leading 24-15 at half, the Trojans extended their lead to 40-28 by the end of third. Down 44-30 in the early part of the fourth quarter, Smoky Valley went on a 10-0 run to get back within four. However, Hillsboro finished the game with an 8-2 stretch for the 10-point win. The Trojans made ten three-pointers on the night, led by Ella Potucek and Daisy Klein, who each went 3-5 from long distance. Potucek scored a team-high 17 points and Klein finished with 11. Smoky Valley was paced by Kat Blanchat, scoring in double figures for the 14th time in 16 games, finishing with 22 points. Elsie Boughfman had eight points in the fourth quarter and finished with 16. Hillsboro is now 9-7 and 3-2 in the CKL, while Smoky Valley fell to 6-10 and 1-5.

Boys-Hillsboro 62, Smoky Valley 32 – Hillsboro used a strong start offensively to set the tone for the night as they had a 20-10 lead after the first quarter behind eight points from Lincoln Wichert. Wichert added ten more points in the second quarter for an 18-point first half as the Trojans led 32-20 going into halftime. A 16-5 third quarter put the game away as Hillsboro finished with the 30-point win. Wichert finished with 22 points and Nash Dickinson scored 13 with three three-pointers in the win. It was the fifth consecutive victory for Hillsboro as they are now 10-6 and 3-2 in the CKL. Ty Heitschmidt and Braylon Olson combined to score 22 of the 32 points for the Vikings. Heitschmidt led the way with 12, while Olson scored 10. Smoky Valley is 3-13 and 1-5 in the CKL.
