HIGHLAND, Kan. (HCLarks.com) – The Hesston College women’s basketball team fell to Highland Community College 81-34 in their KJCCC opener on Saturday (January 11).
Hesston started strong in the first quarter, with Mariah Hall leading the way offensively. The Larks scored 11 points in the opening quarter, highlighted by three-point shooting, but they struggled to maintain offensive momentum, scoring just 6 points in the second quarter.
Highland displayed dominance on both ends of the floor, capitalizing on turnovers and fast-break opportunities. The Scotties extended their lead in the second half, outscoring Hesston 50-17 in the final two quarters. Turnovers proved costly for Hesston, as Highland converted 29 turnovers into 32 points.
The Larks were led by Brittany Cato, who contributed 8 points, and Hall, who added 6 points while shooting 100% from the field.
Despite the loss, Hesston fought hard on the boards, collecting 42 rebounds, including 14 offensive rebounds. Hall and Ashleigh Williams recorded seven rebounds apiece in the contest.
The Larks will hit the road once again on Wednesday (January 15) for another conference matchup against Allen Community College at 6 p.m.
