Haven Dominant in CKL Sweep of Vikings

LINDSBORG, Kan. – In a tough night for the home team, Smoky Valley hosted Haven on Friday night.  The Wildcat girls used a strong second quarter in a 30-point win over the Vikings, while the Haven boys were dominant from the start in a 44-point victory.

Girls-Haven 46, Smoky Valley 16 – Smoky Valley was shorthanded with two starters unavailable, but they still held an 8-7 lead late in the first quarter.  From there, the Wildcats went on a 31-1 run to lead 38-9 at one point in the third quarter.  Of the 46 points scored by Haven, 33 went to Sienna DeFrain and Avery Brawner.  DeFrain led the way with 17, scoring 15 in the first half, while Brawner added 16.  Haven improved to 11-4 and 2-2 in the Central Kansas League.  Smoky Valley dropped to 6-9 and 1-4 in the CKL.  They were led by Kat Blanchat with eight points.

Boys-Haven 65, Smoky Valley 21 – Smoky Valley scored the first basket of the game, but from there, Haven scored 19 straight to lead 19-2 after the first quarter.  The Wildcats stretched their lead to 26 by halftime and held a 57-18 lead after three quarters on their way to the big win.  Three players were in double figures for Haven, led by Nash Wray with 15 points.  Gatlin Rinehart added 12 and Blake Richey scored 10 in the win.  Haven is now 14-1 and 4-0 in the CKL.  Smoky Valley fell to 3-12 and 1-4.  As has been the case all season, Ty Heitschmidt led the Vikings, scoring 15 of the team’s 21 points.
