Football Dragons Stay at No. 1 in NJCAA Football Rankings

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (BlueDragonSports.com) – For the fourth-consecutive week, the Hutchinson Community College football team sits atop the NJCAA Division I Football Rankings.

Posting a second-straight shutout after last Saturday’s 42-0 victory over No. 14 Dodge City, the Blue Dragons improved to 5-0 for the 11th time in program history and is 1-0 in the Jayhawk Conference. The Blue Dragons travel to Independence at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

This is the 40th consecutive poll the Dragons have been ranked, which is the second-longest run in the rankings in program history. The Blue Dragon record for consecutive weeks ranked in the polls is 45, which was set from 2010 to 2013.

This is the sixth time the Blue Dragons have been ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA polls in program history. The Dragons have been ranked No. 1 in 34 of the past 60 polls and have been ranked in the nation’s Top 3 for 35 consecutive polls.

The Blue Dragons captured all 12 first-place votes. Iowa Western remained No. 2. Mississippi Gulf Coast moved up to No. 3 and Georgia Military climbed to No. 4. With a loss to No. 2 Iowa Western, Snow fell two spot to No. 5.

Garden City remained No. 6 and Butler moved up to No. 13. Coffeyville entered the Top 15 for the first time this season at No. 14 and Highland fell five spots to No. 15 after a loss to Coffeyville. Dodge City fell out of the rankings, but is still receiving votes.

The Blue Dragons are now 3-0 against nationally ranked opponents, defeating No. 1 Iowa Western, No. 12 Iowa Central and No. 14 Dodge City this season.
