McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — For the past nine seasons, the McPherson College football has been unable to find a way to take down Kansas Wesleyan. But that ended Saturday (Oct. 5) as the Bulldogs knocked off the Coyotes 42-13, thanks to a powerful rushing attack, and a solid defensive performance.

“I am very happy and proud for the program and the people around it,” head coach Jeremiah Fiscus said. “The work and focus everyone put in and the willingness to be coached is what resulted in a great win Saturday. Kansas Wesleyan is a well-known and respected program and this victory is a step forward for the program.”

Jalil Brown was outstanding Saturday, rushing for a game-high 142 yards on 19 carries, and scoring a pair of touchdowns. Brown also caught three passes for a team-high 34 yards.

The Coyotes offense looked like a well-oiled machine in their first drive of the game, marching 46 yards in six plays to take a 7-0 lead. Zarek Fewell finished it off with a 29-yard touchdown.

A 46-yard kickoff return by Tradarrious Coleman set up the Bulldogs near midfield, and it took just seven plays for MC to knot the score at 7-7 thanks to a steady dose of Brown, who gained all 52 yards on the drive.

The Coyotes took a 10-7 lead with 4:16 left in the opening quarter, but from there it was all Bulldogs, starting with a six-yard touchdown pass from Tristan Szabo to Dillion Coleman. Szabo then called his own number, racing 42 yards for the touchdown, and pushing it to a 21-10 lead at halftime.

KWU fumbled on the second play from scrimmage, and it took just two plays to make them pay, as Szabo again found Coleman for a nine-yard score.

The Bulldogs held KWU to 21 percent (3-for-14) on third down, and just 253 total yards.

Szabo finished with 95 passing yards and three touchdowns, and rushed for 37 yards and a score.

Brown’s second touchdown came with 3:48 left in the third quarter, on an 11-yard run, then Kameron Hamid helped the Bulldogs capitalize on another Coyote fumble with a 16-yard reception.

Richard Lara was 17-for-30 for 151 yards passing to lead the Coyotes. Fewell carried the ball nine times for 70 yards and a score.

MC will hit the bye week with a 5-1 record, and their longest winning streak since 2019. The Bulldogs will be back in action on Oct. 19 for the Homecoming game against Bethel College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
