Dragons Girls Red Hot in First Half in Sub-State Win over Smoky Valley

HALSTEAD, Kan. – In their third meeting of the season, Halstead hosted Smoky Valley in the first round of 3A Sub-State #2 in the Halstead Region in girls action Thursday night.  Halstead shot 8-10 from three-point land in the first half on their way to their third win of the season against the Vikings.

Halstead 63, Smoky Valley 36 – The Dragons shot 4-6 from three-point land in the first quarter on their way to a 20-7 lead after one.  In the second, they were 4-4 from beyond the arc and had a 43-16 advantage heading into the locker room.  Leading 61-29 after three, there was a running clock in the fourth quarter in the 27-point win for Halstead in the end.  Dalaina Schutte led the Dragons with 17 points, shooting 6-7 from the floor and 5-6 on three-point attempts.  Jordy Schroeder added 10 points, all in the second quarter, shooting 4-4 and 2-2 from three-point range.  The second-seeded Dragons moved to 20-1 with the win and are headed to the 3A Sub-State semifinals where they will host 7-seed Nemaha Central on Tuesday night.  Smoky Valley finished their year at 6-15.  They were led by Kat Blanchat with 14 points, scoring in double figures for the 19th time in 21 games for the Vikings this season.
