DODGE CITY, Kan. – Sophomore Adriana Delgado had a career-high six points to power the No. 16-ranked Hutchinson Community College women’s soccer team and Blue Dragon head coach Sammy Lane to a milestone victory on Wednesday at Dodge City’s Memorial Stadium.
The Blue Dragons scored three second-half goals to break a halftime time and defeated Dodge City 4-1 in a Jayhawk Conference contest.
The victory was the 250th for Lane and the Blue Dragon women’s soccer program. Lane, in his 19th season, is the only head coach in Blue Dragon women’s soccer history.
The Blue Dragons also defeated Dodge City for the 27th consecutive time. Hutchinson (3-0-1) plays Crowder College and NOC-Enid on Saturday and Sunday, respectively in Enid, Oklahoma.
Delgado had her second career two-goal game and a career-high two assists to lead the Blue Dragons, who were out-shot 13-9.
Delgado’s first-half corner kick led to a Kaitlyn Edwards‘ header for the game’s first goal just 9:40 into the game.
Tied at 1-1 starting the second half, Delgado snapped that tie after taking a long pass from Kaitlyn Edwards and finishing from the left side of the goal just 50 seconds into the half for a 2-1 Dragon lead.
The goals were Delgado’s third and fourth of the season and she earned her third career-game-winning goal.
Freshman Katharina Marx had a goal and an assist, as did Edwards. Sophomore Jayda Wyatt had an assist.
Freshman goalkeeper Karsyn Slothower (3-0-1) earned the victory, but she had her shutout streak snapped in the first half at 267 minutes when Dodge City’s Sian Cha scored in the 14th minute to tie the game at 1-1. Dodge City put some pressure on late with a pair of corner kicks that Slothower was able to turn away.
Slothower finished with six saves.
Marx’s goal was assisted by Delgado and it gave the Blue Dragons a 3-1 lead in the 67th minute. Delgado closed her big game when she finished after taking a Wyatt pass for a goal and a 4-1 lead in the 74th minute.
GAME NOTES – Hutchinson is now 28-1 all-time against Dodge City, including 26-0 in conference-designated matches.
