Chanute’s Dillow Named Regional Wrestler of the Year; Multiple Girls Qualify for 4A & 5A State

Ad Astra Radio area wrestlers were competing in KSHSAA Regionals this weekend on the girls side.  In the Class 4A east meet in Paola, three wrestlers claimed regional titles and 13 total qualified for the 4A State Tournament to be held in Salina at Tony’s Pizza Events Center on February 28 and March 1.  On the west side in 5A at Topeka-Seaman, Newton had a solid showing with three regional champions, while 23 total wrestlers are headed to the 5A State Tournament at Park City Arena on February 28 and March 1.

At 4A East, Chanute junior Kiley Dillow was named the Regional Wrestler of the Year.  She moved to 39-0 on the season and won her 87th straight match with a win by technical fall (21-6, 3:45) over Molly Benes of Bishop Miege in the 170# title bout.  Iola freshman Addilyn Wacker took the regional title with a 14-3 major decision win over Payge Vetsch of Jefferson West.  Wacker is 25-8 on the season.  At 135#, Burlington senior Haylei Potter moved to 44-2 on the season, winning the title match over Morgan Pickering of Santa Fe Trail by a 10-8 decision.

In the 5A West Regional at Topeka-Seaman, Newton sophomore Brookelyn Treaster moved to 24-5 with a win by fall in 3:49 over Camdyn Post of Great Bend in the title match at 105#.  Railer junior Avery Hinojos took first place at 115#, beating Emporia’s Heily Batres by fall in 2:46 in the championship, moving to 28-3.  Jaeann James was the third regional champion for Newton as she took the gold at 135# with a 10-3 decision win over Aalyra Arguelles of Kapaun-Mt. Carmel.  James is 23-9 on the season heading to state.
