LINDSBORG, Kan. – In high school hoops on Monday night, the Smoky Valley Vikings were back at home in a make-up game hosting the Hoisington Cardinals. Hoisington jumped out to a double-digit lead and held off a Smoky Valley run for the win in the girls game, while the Cardinal and Viking boys battled for three quarters with Hoisington pulling away late.
Girls-Hoisington 54, Smoky Valley 50 – Hoisington led 14-7 after one quarter and stretched their lead to 28-16 by halftime. Early in the third quarter, the Cardinals held a 35-20 lead, but Smoky Valley would not go away quietly. They fought back within eight by the end of the third and finished off a 12-2 run to get within 40-38. Hoisington stretched their lead back to 51-44, but a rare four-point play from Kenzley Haxton got the Vikings back within a possession at 51-48. Hoisington was able to thwart any late attempts by Smoky Valley to overtake the lead, hanging on for the four-point win.
Ellie Crawford led the Cardinals with 17 points, while Kelsi Maier added 14 and had eight in the fourth quarter. Hoisington is now 4-3 and 1-0 in the CKL. Elsie Boughfman scored a career high 17 for the Vikings and Kat Blanchat was in double figures for the sixth time in six games with 16. Haxton finished with 10 as Smoky Valley fell to 0-6 and 0-3 in the CKL.

Boys-Hoisington 56, Smoky Valley 33 – A back and forth game saw Hoisington take a 25-21 lead into the locker room at halftime. Smoky Valley came out energized in the third quarter, scoring the first five points to lead 26-25. However, the Cardinals went on a 9-0 run from there, extending their lead to seven after three. Hoisington outscored Smoky Valley 18-2 in the final quarter, paced by a 13-point quarter from Mason Martin, who finished with a game-high 22 points. Rhen Ghalla added 11 and Jason Robinson scored 10 to help move Hoisington to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in the CKL. Ty Heitschmidt was the lone double figure scorer for Smoky Valley as hed had 12. The Vikings are now 0-6 and 0-3 in the CKL.
