Bullpups Sweep Dodge City in Season Opener

DODGE CITY, Kan. – The McPherson Bullpups basketball teams started off their season strong Friday at the Dodge City Civic Center in Dodge City, Kan., with both the girls and boys teams picking up blowout wins over Dodge City.

GIRLS: McPherson 52, Dodge City 28

The McPherson girls team started off on fire in the first half, outscoring the Lady Demons 21-3 in the first quarter and leading at the half 34-13. The offense slowed down a tad in the second half, but the girls squad finished strong en route to their 52-28 victory.

The Bullpups forced 30 Dodge City turnovers in the game, 23 of them in the first half, thanks to their full-court defensive pressure. Sr. Karter Alvord led the team with 7 steals.

Alvord also had a stellar offensive game, leading the team with 26 points, including going 6/10 on three-pointers (3-3 in the fourth quarter). Fr. Jaela Thompson finished with 9 pts., Sr. Reanna Eilrich had 7, Sr. Jayla McLeod had 6, Sr. Madi Moors and Jr. Ellie Bower each contributed with 2.

BOYS: McPherson 64, Dodge City 37

Just like the girls team, the McPherson boys started off hot, shooting 68% in the first half and limiting the Red Demons to 26% shooting in the first 16 minutes. The team finished shooting 25/42 (59.5%) on the floor, 5/12 (41.7%) on 3-pointers and 9/14 (64.3%) on free throws.

Jr. Gabe Pyle had a strong first half with 18 points, ending the day with 22. Sr. Kyden Thompson finished behind Pyle with 17 pts. Sr. Owen Pyle finished with 8 pts., Sr. Gavin Wedel ended with 6 pts., Sr. Cory Muehler had 5 pts., So. Jett Pyle and Jr. Ian Razak each ended with 3.

McPherson will head to the Roundhouse Tuesday, Dec. 5 to host the Derby Panthers in their home opener. Varsity girls will play at 6 p.m., varsity boys will play at 7:30 p.m. Both games can be heard on 98.9/1540 KMCP, adastraradio.com, and the Ad Astra Radio app.
