Bullpups Cap Off Think Pink Night with Impressive Wins vs. Wichita Collegiate

McPHERSON, Kan – Friday, Feb. 2 was Think Pink night at the McPherson Roundhouse, helping to raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer.

During halftime of the girls’ game, the girls basketball team, alongside the McPherson Middle School GBB team and youth girls players, presented a check to Women and Children Combating Cancer (WACCC) worth $3,869, surpassing their total fundraiser over the past 17 years to over $16,000.

After trailing 7-5 early in the 1st quarter, the Bullpup girls stepped on the gas pedal and never tapped the brakes for the remainder of the game, ending with their biggest win ever against Wichita-Collegiate in a 53-point victory. The win moves them to 11-3 on the season.

All players on the roster earned playing time, including Arrianna Nowell and Spain native Ane Garzon for the first time this season.

Karter Alvord tied her season-high in just 15 minutes of play, shooting 9-10 FG, 6-7 3PT, finishing with 26 points. Reanna Eilrich shot a perfect 3-3 from downtown, finishing with 11 points.  Jaela Thompson ended with 7 points and 8 assists.

The Bullpups were able to score a win against an injury-riddled, but taller Spartans squad thanks to shooting nearly 60% and forcing key turnovers. Despite Collegiate fighting back late and putting the game to within as little as seven points with three minutes remaining, McPherson held strong hitting key free throws and getting defensive stops.

Cory Muehler had a game-high 19 points, shooting 7-11 FG, 2-4 3PT. Kyden Thompson added 16 points, 9 assists and four dunks. Owen Pyle had 14 points, and Gabe Pyle finished with 12.

The win moves McPherson to 14-0 this season.


Both teams will be on the road Tuesday, Feb. 6 against the Hays Indians, whose teams are both 9-5 on the season and are coming off of wins against Dodge City on Friday. It will be their final non-divisional game of the regular season.

The girls will tip-off at 6:00 p.m., the boys will begin at around 7:30 p.m. Both games can be heard on 98.9/1540 KMCP.
