McPHERSON, Kan. – The McPherson High School Bullpup girls are returning to the State Tournament in Salina after defeating Clay Center 68-55 in the Sub-State Championship Friday.
McPherson got off to a hot start leading 21-7 after about four minutes of play, but the Tigers of Clay Center bounced back and brought it to as close as five points in the first half. The Bulllpups would then reach fire again in the second half, ballooning their largest lead to 15 and winning 68-55.
Four Bullpups finished ini double-figures, led by Karter Alvord’s 24 points. Jayla McLeod ended with 15, Jaela Thompson had 14 and Madi Moors had 13.
The State Quarterfinals are Wednesday, March 6. Tip-off and opponent are TBD. The tournament runs March 6-9 at the Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina.
