Bullpup Basketball Starts 2025 Splitting vs. Mulvane

McPHERSON, Kan. – McPherson High School basketball started the 2025 calendar year at the McPherson Roundhouse Friday, Jan. 10 with a double-header against the Mulvane Wildcats.


Girls: Mulvane 50, McPherson 32

The Bullpups had a terrific start to their game vs. Mulvane after struggling to start the season at a 2-4 record. McPherson had a one-point lead at halftime leading 21-20 against the Wildcats, but Mulvane had a hot start to the second half. Mac was outscored 21-4 in the third quarter, 30-11 in the second half, falling 50-32 in the game. It’s the first time in the matchup’s history that Mulvane had defeated McPherson in either varsity girls or boys basketball.

The Bullpup girls fall to 2-5 on the season and 1-2 against AVCTL Div. 3 opponents.

Boys: McPherson 76, Mulvane 40

McPherson trailed 12-4 early in the first quarter before ending the first eight minutes on a 12-3 run. The Bullpups catapaulted themselves into a blowout lead after outscoring Mulvane 23-9 in the second quarter to give them a 39-24 lead at halftime. McPherson continued their fast-tempoed offense into the second half to give them the 76-40 win. The 36-point margin of victory ties for the largest in the matchup’s history.

The MHS boys are now 6-1 on the year and still undefeated in divisional play at 3-0.

The Bullpups are back in action Tuesday, Jan. 14 at Winfield. The girls will tip off at 6:00 p.m. and the boys will follow up at around 7:30 p.m.
