McPHERSON, Kan. – Raegan Kleppe pitched seven scoreless innings to set up an Alyvia Quintana walk-off RBI single as McPherson College won game one of the doubleheader 1-0 over York College at Bulldog Park. The Bulldogs fell 3-1 in the second game.
Lacy Weaver got the seventh started with a leadoff single to right field before a sacrifice bunt by Summer Garcia moved pinch-runner Amanda Ambrosy into scoring position, setting the stage for Quintana.
Baserunners were scarce for the Bulldogs in the early going until Mackenzie Egan gave them their first hit in the bottom of the fourth. The Bulldogs would strand two in that frame.
Kleppe finished with six strikeouts and recorded her first complete-game shutout of the season and eighth of her career.
Jordyn Johnson got the call in the circle for the Bulldogs in the nightcap, striking out five batters while allowing just three hits.
York took an early lead, scoring once in the opening frame, then adding two more in the top of the second.
The Bulldogs threatened throughout the contest, leaving a runner on base in each of the first three innings. They loaded the bases in the fourth, but a strikeout by Lauren Skinner ended the inning.
McPherson finally scored in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Egan, but they were unable to generate enough offense.
The Bulldogs return to Bulldog Park on Saturday (Mar. 25) for a doubleheader against Saint Mary. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
