McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) – The McPherson College Bulldogs got back in the win column Saturday (Oct. 7) with a 3-0 sweep over the Southwestern College Moundbuilders inside the Sport Center.
The Bulldogs raced out to an early 10-3 lead in the opening set, thanks to back-to-back service aces by Katelyn Moore, then never looked back in the game, winning 25-16.
MC grabbed a 7-4 advantage in the second set following a kill by Bridget McHugh, but three straight points by the Builders leveled the score. The teams would trade points until a 5-1 burst by the Bulldogs that included kills by McHugh and Hadley Waldren gave them a lead they would never relinquish.
The Bulldogs used an 8-1 run midway through the third frame to mount an 18-10 lead. However, the Builders showed a lot of fight, scoring ten of the next 12 points to tie the score at 20-20. Southwestern, then took a 22-21 advantage, but a pair of errors followed by a Zoe Fernandez kill closed out the sweep.
Petra Fernandez paced the Bulldogs with 14 kills, and added 13 digs. Zoe Fernandez finished with 10 kills. Cynarah Rodriguez led the team with 35 assists, while Moriah Delgado had a team-high 16 digs.
The Bulldogs are back at home on Wednesday (Oct. 11) to take on Bethany College, starting at 7:00 p.m.
