Bulldogs Take Care of Business Against Sterling

McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) – The McPherson College Bulldogs made quick work of the Sterling College Warriors Wednesday (Sep. 27), winning 3-0 inside the McPherson Sport Center. The win is the Bulldogs first conference win this season, and their fourth straight win over Sterling.

The first set was back-and-forth, before three straight kills by Zoe FernandezPetra Fernandez, and Bridget McHugh followed by an attacking error by the Warriors, put the Bulldogs on top 11-7 and forced a timeout from Sterling. From there, the Bulldogs took control, using a pair of 4-0 bursts to win 25-15.

The Bulldogs finished the opening set with 17 kills, including five apiece from McHugh and Zoe Fernandez.

MC carried that momentum into the second frame, scoring eight of the first nine points to mount a huge lead. The Warriors were able to pull within six points, but an 8-1 run late in the set powered the Bulldogs to a 25-13 set win.

The Bulldogs used a trio of errors to open the second set with four straight points, but the Warriors answered with five straight points of their own to grab a 6-4 advantage.

But from there, it was all Bulldogs cruising to a 25-13 win to seal the sweep.

Raegin Bromenshenkel finished with four service aces, including three in the second set. She also recorded a match-best 23 assists.

Zoe Fernandez led the Bulldogs (10-5, 1-2 KCAC) with nine kills, while McHugh added eight kills. Jaden Polovina finished with 14 assists. Moriah DelgadoPetra Fernandez, and Katelyn Moore each had 13 digs apiece.

The Bulldogs are back in action as they host crosstown rival Central Christian on Friday (Sep. 29) at 7:00 p.m. MC will then travel to Wichita on Saturday (Sep. 30) to take on Friends.
