McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — The Bulldogs continue to show just how much they’ve grown in year two under coach Freund as they secured the program’s first three-game win streak since 2022 with a 4-1 win over Avila University on Saturday (Sep 21) afternoon.
The Bulldogs came out firing early as just six minutes into the contest sophomore Nathan Van Wyck knocked in his first goal of the season after being set up by a perfect lead pass from Joao Rocha. MC continued to roll in the first half as Van Wyck would once again find the back of the net in the 24th minute for his second goal of the game. Getting the assist on this one was Sijmen Van Der Zee. MC kept the Eagles off the board in the first half and took the 2-0 lead into halftime.
Raul Reyes Jr kept the party going for the Bulldogs, scoring his first goal of the season in the 52nd minute after being set up by Zane Sullivan to make it a 3-0 Bulldog lead. Avila would finally crack into the scoreboard with just their second goal of the season thanks to Ethan Solognier, but the Bulldogs quickly pushed the lead back out to three as Van Wyck put home a penalty shot in the 78th minute to secure the hat trick. MC held onto the momentum and improved to 2-0 in KCAC play.
McPherson’s defense once again shined as Avila only recorded three shots on goal on the day. Keito Takehara continues to show improvement in goal for the Bulldogs, securing two big saves and his third win as the goalkeeper.
The Bulldogs hit the field again on Wednesday, September 25 for a road matchup against KCAC foe Kansas Wesleyan. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
