McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — A first-half goal and a full team effort on the defensive end was enough for the Bulldogs to claim their first win of the 2024 season and the first win in the McPherson Collegiate Cup as they defeated the Central Christian University Tigers on Tuesday (Sep 10), 1-0.
The lone goal in the contest came courtesy of sophomore Sijmen Van Der Zee, who was able to chip in the shot from the left side after being set up and assisted by Anthony Pereira. Keito Takehara Jr. made his 5th start in goal for MC and collected his first win on the season.
Defense was the biggest key to the victory for the Bulldogs as the Tigers were unable to record a single shot on goal throughout the 90-minute contest and were only able to muster up a total of just four shots. This marks the first shutout win for the Bulldogs since 2022 in a 1-0 win on the road against Sterling.
The Bulldogs will hit the field next on Wednesday, September 18 for the first KCAC conference match of the year when they play host to Tabor College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
