McPHERSON, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) — The McPherson College Bulldogs continued their conference dominance Saturday (Apr. 23), knocking off the Southwestern College Moundbuilders 6-1 at the Bulldog Tennis Center to win their fifth KCAC regular season title in the last six seasons and third in a row.
Both teams entered the day with a 10-0 record, setting up a huge KCAC showdown, and the day did not disappoint.
The Bulldogs won the doubles point with a pair of decisive victories. The top doubles team of Michael Beltran and Martin Millos got it started with a 6-1 win, then Oscar Brouwer and Trey Murphy followed suit with a 6-0 victory in #2 doubles.
Beltran kept it rolling by cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Federico Poi, but the Moundbuilders answered with their only point of the day after Marcus Nardy fell to Ryan Kitchin.
From there, it was all Bulldogs, as Millos and Brouwer each one in straight sets to seal the victory. Arthur Nardy made it a 5-1 Bulldog advantage with a 6-0, 6-1 win, then Celien Botlan put the icing on the cake with a thrilling three-set comeback win after dropping the first set.
